E-commerce major Snapdeal announced that it sold more than 11 million units during its Unbox Diwali Sale held from 2nd – 6th October 2016.
The company witnessed 40 percent increase in the number of women shoppers purchasing online on Snapdeal as compared to last Diwali sale. The e-tailer also witnessed more than 50 percent prepaid orders on its platform, a major shift in consumer behaviour who till now preferred cash-on-delivery model of payment for online purchases.

Fashion, home (general merchandise) and electronics were highest selling categories by volume in that order. More than a million concurrent users logged on to Snapdeal at peak time.
Co-Founder and CEO, Kunal Bahl, Snapdeal said, “The Unbox Diwali Sale has been a great success for us on all metrics. Hundreds of thousands of orders were delivered in 24 hours despite the massive surge in orders. We saw a 4 times increase of new users who shopped at Snapdeal as compared to last Diwali.”

Also, the top metro cities where demand came from were Delhi-NCR, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune in that order. The traffic from Tier II/Tier III cities increased 20 times across the country, the company said. More than 75,000 unique sellers received multiple orders during the Unbox Diwali Sale.
In comparison, Snapdeal’s rival Flipkart said it sold 15.5 million units during its five-day sale, striding past closest rival Amazon which said it clocked sales of 15 million units on Wednesday. Flipkart also claimed to have clocked its highest-ever single day sales on Monday at Rs 1,400 crore.
