Kenneth Cole Productions, a fashion house and shoe company founded more than three decades ago, is closing almost all its stores, effectively ending its run as a US brick-and-mortar chain.
The New York-based retailer will shutter its 63 outlet stores over the next six months, chief executive officer Marc Schneider said in an e-mail Friday. The company will be focusing efforts on its e-commerce site and international business.
The move comes as numerous other chains such as Gap and Macy’s also shutter their brick-and-mortar stores and boost investment in e-commerce.
Kenneth Cole was founded in 1982 in New York, beginning with women’s shoes. It later expanded into men’s wear and eventually increased its product lines to include handbags, clothing, and accessories.
