Bengaluru: German footwear firm Birkenstock Group B.V has expanded its store footprint in India with the launch of five new stores in various malls across four cities, according to a social media post by a top company official.
The German brand famous for its chunky sandals has opened outlets in Nexus Mall in Hyderabad, Sarath City Mall in Hyderabad, Nexus Mall Koramangala in Bengaluru, Pacific Mall in Dehradun, and in Phoenix Citadel Mall in Indore, Jens Hattab, managing director at Birkenstock (Middle East, Africa and India) said in a LinkedIn post.
“Always aspiring to serve our rapidly growing fan base in India with the best brand experience. Nothing better than stepping into our marvelous footbed. 22 premium Birkenstock Stores now operating across Pan India and many more in the pipeline,” said Hattab.
Founded in 1774 by Johann Adam Birkenstock and headquartered in Neustadt, Germany, the company’s original purpose was to create shoes that support and contour the foot, compared to the flat soles of footwear during that time.
Birkenstock entered India in December 2019 with an e-commerce site and then followed it up by opening its first mono-brand store at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi in January 2020.
Currently, the lifestyle brand operates 22 brick-and-mortar stores in different cities across the country such as New Delhi, Gurugram, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Pune, Mumbai, Guwahati, Chennai, Kochi and Trivandrum.
