Bengaluru: Lifestyle brand American Eagle opened a new store at Hilite Mall, Calicut, Marx Marcus, business development manager at Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd. (ABFRL) announced in a LinkedIn post. The company is expanding its retail presence in the country through franchisees, with plans to add another 50 stores in India over the next three years.
American Eagle entered India through ABFRL. In August 2017, ABFRL entered into a multi‐store retail and e-commerce licensing agreement with American Eagle Outfitters Inc. The company made its debut in the Indian market in June 2018 with its first store launched in DLF Mall of India, Noida.
Headquartered in Pennsylvania, American Eagle Outfitters Inc. is a global specialty retailer offering clothing, accessories, and personal care products. The company was founded in 1977 by brothers Jerry and Mark Silverman as a subsidiary of Retail Ventures Inc., a holding company operating retail stores.
Currently, American Eagle operates over 1,000 stores in the US, Canada, Mexico, China, and Hong Kong, and ships to more than 85 countries worldwide. American Eagle Outfitters and Aerie merchandise (an intimate apparel and lifestyle retailer and sub-brand owned by American Eagle Outfitters) are also available at more than 200 international locations operated by licensees in 24 countries.
For the second quarter of FY2022, the retailer has recorded total net revenue of $1.2 billion, and Aerie business recorded $372 million in revenue, up by 11% from last year.
