Wadhawan Food Retail Pvt. Ltd (WFRPL) will invest Rs 1,500 crore to expand the reach of its food and grocery retail venture Spinach. About 1,500 stores will be opened over four years across 90 cities.
Currently, 23 Spinach stores are operational in Mumbai and Thane. Some 100 of the new stores are scheduled for launch in Maharashtra by the end of this fiscal, said Group Director Kapil Wadhawan.
The stores have three formats – Spinach Super, Spinach Local and Spinach Express. Spinach, which recently marked its first anniversary, has launched a customer magazine called My Spinach.
It may be noted that in April this year, WFRPL acquired Sangam, a non-store home delivery retail business, from Unilever India Export Ltd. “With Sangam we have strengthened our back-end operations and are providing facilities to customer through the offline model,” Wadhawan said.
