Mumbai gets Marks & Spencer Reliance’s first store

Marks & Spencer Reliance, a joint venture between Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Retail and the British department store chain Marks & Spencer Group, has planned to launch their first store in Mumbai by January 2009.

Announcing this, Mark Ashman, chief executive officer(India), Marks & Spencer, said, “With an investment of USD 0.92 million, Mumbai will get our first store with an area of 18,000 square feet by January 2009.” The second and the third store are likely to come up in other metros by September 2009 and April 2010, respectively.

The company has also decided to launch stand-alone stores in different cities of India.

“We will open around five stores each in Mumbai and Delhi, three in Bengaluru, one or two stores in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Jaipur, Pune, Chandigarh and Ludhiana. All stores would be stand-alone stores,” added Ashman.
