With the aim of facilitating trade within South Asia, Europe and North America, world’s leading express and logistics company DHL launched its latest Fashion and Apparel Center for Excellence in India. “Our center will bring various benefits to customers in the industry like optimisation of end-to-end supply chain networks with in-depth industry and local knowledge; improvement of reliability and responsiveness of apparel supply chain, reduction of overall supply chain cost from sourcing to point of sale and provide accurate supply chain visibility and reporting,” said Amadou Diallo, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding (South Asia Pacific).
According to Diallo, logistics sector is worth over USD 3.9 billion per annum, and it forms a critical component in the global supply chains of the world’s best known brands.
“South Asia is a key sourcing, manufacturing and distribution base for the global fashion industry. In South Asia, finished apparel is the fastest growing segment and is expected to continue to grow rapidly,” added Diallo.
“Fashion companies compete on design, price and range availability. Multiple seasons each year result in product complexities of size, colour and style. More importantly, garments need to be available for sale where and when they are needed. A holistic supply chain management solution can deliver a competitive advantage by enabling customers to gain greater control of their supply chains and maintain the highest levels of product availability,” Diallo added further.
DHL’s Fashion and Apparel Center for Excellence is based in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu, and will facilitate trade within the region, Europe and North America. This center will comprise of a core team of industry experts who will be responsible for developing products and solutions as well as provide consultancy services to customers at the same time.
