“Quality and freshness are two key issues in food supply chain. I see retail playing a major role in efficient management of food production and distribution system,” said Thomas Varghese, CEO, Aditya Birla Retail.
Ahead of the two-day congregation of the Indian food industry, Food Forum India 2009 (FFI 09) to be held on March 19-20 at The Renaissance in Mumbai, Varghese shared his thoughts about the necessity of a quality supply chain management system. “There is a need to bring in customer focus in managing food supply chain and developing integrated practical approach to address food safety and quality issues along with the entire post-harvest handling chain,” added Varghese.
He strongly believes that the participants in Food Forum India can crack the nut and find out the strategic steps to move forward for the growth of the industry. “We must meet in such congregations and share our experiences and learning and strategise collaborative industry measures that will profit all stake holders and consumers alike,” concluded Varghese.
With the captains of the food industry charting the future of food retail, FFI 09 will comprise a convention and exhibition, and will be signed off with the Coca Cola Golden Spoon Awards for excellence in food retailing.
