Bharti Retail, a fully-owned subsidiary of Bharti Enterprises, has appointed Andrew Levermore as its chief operating officer. Levermore will join Bharti Retail in July 2010 and lead the operations for Easyday and Easyday Market stores across India.
Levermore has over 28 years of rich global experience in the retail industry – both in luxury and value retail. Prior to being appointed by Bharti Retail, he was the director of stores for Woolworths in South Africa and was responsible for over 400 stores of varying formats across the country.
Earlier, he was CEO of HyperCity Retail, where he was at the helm of affairs. Before joining K Raheja Corp, Levermore had a senior management responsibility in buying and merchandise management with Makro, South Africa.
“The appointment of Andrew Levermore underlines our philosophy of bringing in best in class and global talent. I am confident his rich experience in the international and Indian markets will add immense value to Bharti Retail’s operations. I wish him the very best for his new assignment,” says Rajan Bharti Mittal, vice-chairman and managing director, Bharti Enterprises.
Andrew began his retail career with the Edcon Group in South Africa and progressed to divisional management level before moving to the UK to join the House of Fraser, where he had various general management roles. He has also been the managing director of Guys & Girls and The Hub, a department store chain and Sheet Street, a home-ware chain, both in South Africa.
