Crossword Bookstores, wholly-owned subsidiary of Shopper’s Stop Ltd, is expanding its presence in tier I and II cities. The bookstore chain will be opening four new stores in the country over the next two months.
The new stores would come up in Chennai and Bangalore, and in tier II towns such as Lucknow and Aurangabad. The company recently opened two new stores in Bhopal and Nashik. The stores are a mix of company-owned and franchised stores.
Chandrashekhar Navalkar, CEO, Crossword Bookstores said, “Our experience in tier II cities, so far, has been good. The stores have witnessed good footfalls and business growth. In the past few years, we have witnessed an attitudinal change in lifestyle and spending habits in these cities. However, customers have had very little to choose from when it comes to a lifestyle experience. It is this need we intend to address, by providing them with the opportunity to enjoy the Crossword experience.”
Launched in 1992, Crossword currently has 63 stores across 13 cities pan -India including Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Aurangabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Nashik, Pune, Nagpur and Vadodara.
