X5 Retail Group NV, Russia’s largest retailer in terms of sales, has won the Consumer Rights 2010 Annual Award in the Private Label category. X5’s quality control system for private label goods was named the best.
The Consumer Rights Award is granted by the Social Projects Foundation. The award is granted to companies that not only comply with the law, but make additional efforts to promote a civilised consumer market in Russia.
X5 Retail Group NV was created as a result of a merger between Pyaterochka (soft discounter chain) and Perekrestok (supermarket chain) in May 2006. In June 2008, X5 acquired Karusel hypermarket chain and substantially strengthened its position in the hypermarket format. As of March 31, 2010, X5’s franchisees operated 640 stores across Russia.
