World Retail Congress to focus on ‘post-recession’ challenges

Must Read

The World Retail Congress 2010, which will take place in Berlin from October 25-27, in its opening session will focus on how retail should respond to the challenges of a ‘post-recession’ world, while providing context and inspiration to retailers as they continue to battle the economic storm.

Over the last 18 months, retailers have had to contend with the effects of the ‘deepest recession’ in over 60 years – turbulence in financial markets, a changing consumer and a move towards the online world, as well as major disruption to international travel and tourism caused by volcanic ash.

As one of the most dynamic and fast-paced sectors, retail is a key economic driver and this gathering of experts will look to identify ways in which retailers can ensure they are catering for the changing needs of the consumer as well as responding to turbulent market conditions.

The World Retail Congress, one of the most important and high-profile gatherings of the global retail industry across all sectors, has at its heart a three-day agenda of plenary sessions, business streams and networking events.

With the presence of over 130 leading retail industry executives and visionaries, attendees will hear from experts such as Angela Ahrendts, CEO, Burberry; Lev Khasis, CEO, X5 Retail Group; Concetta Lanciaux, CEO, Luxadvisory; Michael Gould, chairman and CEO, Bloomingdale’s; Simon Fox, CEO, HMV; Carl Juel-Jensen, MD, Netto International; and Sarita Nayyar, senior director, World Economic Forum, among others.

In 2009, the event was attended by over 1,000 people with more than 100 speakers representing some of the biggest and most important names in retailing around the world.

The World Retail Congress is organised by Emap Communications, in association with key sponsors – Deloitte, MasterCard and Oracle.
