UK-based food retailer Sainsbury’s has recently launched a convenience store – ‘Local’ – at West End Lane, West Hampstead, London. The 2,500 sq.ft store stocks a range of high quality and organic fresh produce, freshly baked croissants and bread from the in-store bakery, and a range of ‘Taste the Difference’ ready meals for the on-the-go customer.
Store Manager Waheed Ansari said, “While some of our colleagues have transferred from other stores, around 70 per cent of our colleagues are new. I’m really proud that we’re able to bring an employment boost to the area, no matter how small.”
Hampstead-based One to One Children’s Fund has been selected as the store’s first charity partner and will receive support for the next 12 months.
Chairman David Altschuler said, “One to One Children’s Fund relieves the suffering of children who are victims of poverty, disease and conflict in Africa, Kosovo, the Middle East and in the UK. We are delighted to be selected as Sainsbury’s Local Charity and are looking forward to working with Sainsbury’s colleagues and customers to make a difference to many more children’s lives over the coming year.”
In addition to helping One to One, the store is committed to helping others in the local community. Beckford Primary School children received a bundle of Active Kids sports, cooking and gardening equipment on opening day and next week, the store’s construction team will be erecting a new greenhouse, carrying out general gardening tasks and painting at West Hampstead Women’s Centre.
Waheed added, “We’re really pleased to be able to support both One to One Children’s Fund, which gives such crucial aid to suffering children here and abroad, as well as Beckford Primary School. We’re looking forward to working with other community groups in future and to help make a positive difference to the local community.”
