Sainsbury’s doubles up on click ordering

Must Read

Sainsbury’s is to double its “click & collect” service to more than 800 stores by Christmas as it steps up plans to boost its sales of non-food items.

The supermarket giant wants to increase the proportion of sales of goods such as homeware products and domestic electrical items from the current 25 per cent to 45 per cent by 2020.

The expansion of click & collect, which enables customers to place a non-food online order by 2pm for next day delivery and collection from the store of the customer’s choice, will take place across the group’s supermarket and convenience store formats.

Helen Buck, Sainsbury’s director of convenience, said: “General merchandise is a key area of focus for Sainsbury’s and we are enjoying growth rates of 20 per cent in some areas. Services such as click & collect will play an increasingly crucial role in this.

“More than a third of our non-food online sales come through click & collect and this exciting expansion will make it even easier for people to take advantage of this service.”
