In terms of volume sales, India now stands as the sixth largest market for Coca-Cola leaving behind Germany, according to a leading daily. Low price points and better distribution helped the beverages maker increase its sales in the country.
Trailing behind the US, Mexico, China, Brazil and Japan, Coca-Cola India now accounts for 12 percent of the company’s volume sales in the Asia- Pacific region.
Last year, PepsiCo India claimed that globally, India was among the top five markets for the company.
Coca-Cola India sells Coke, Fanta, Thums Up, and Sprite and Fanta. PepsiCo sells products like Pepsi, Mountain Dew, and 7UP according to Nielsen data.
The economic slowdown has affected the growth of the company in mature markets like the US and Europe where consumers are also opting for healthier drinks. India seems to be the key market for both the US firms as India has one of the lowest soft drink consumption. By 2020, Coca-Cola sees India among its top 5 markets by volumes.
