Ajit Joshi, CEO and MD of Infiniti Retail Ltd, which operates Croma, India’s leading CDIT retail chain, is reportedly moving out of his role at the Tata Group-owned company. Unconfirmed media reports indicate that Joshi and marketing head Deepshikha Surendran have either taken up or are set to take up strategic role with Tata Sons Ltd, the holding company of the Tata Group.
Avijit Mitra, CFO at Infiniti Retail, is reportedly managing the affairs of the company in the interim, until a new CEO is appointed.
Joshi, as the chain’s first ever CEO, has been virtually synomynous with the multiple award-winning Croma brand. Launched in 2006, the chain has 97 outlets across 16 major cities of India and sells over 6,000 products from five lead categories – home appliances, entertainment, IT products, digital imaging and communication.
Joshi was instrumental in expanding Croma and adding formats like Croma Zip stores and Croma Kiosks while also introducing a private label portfolio under the the name Croma Life Accessories. In 2012, Joshi also championed Croma’s foray into the online space with the launch of its e-commerce platform cromaretail.com.
Ajit Joshi has been a part of retail and hospitality industry both in India and internationally for over 20 years of his career, specialising in areas of business
management, operations strategy, channel development and property management. Prior to his role at Croma, he was with department store chain Shoppers Stop. He has handled a number of portfolios, such as, Spotless Services, Orion Capital Pvt. Ltd., ITC Hotels Ltd. and Les Roches.
Joshi is an MBA from the Melbourne Business School, studied at Cornell University, done his Hotel Management from Les Roches- Bluches, Switzerland and from Institute of Hotel Management, Mumbai.
