From app-only to website: Voonik goes back to basics

Must Read

At a time where some e-commerce players are ditching the desktop experience to go app-only, Voonik, a fashion marketplace for women, has announced the launch of its new desktop experience (website).
Voonik launched its app in August 2014 and boasts of an assortment of over 15 lakh products. With the desktop launch, the company aims to offer its large and growing customer base with a multi-channel experience.
“Voonik is now doing 10,000 orders a day and this will increase to 15,000 in a month after our desktop launch and we are aiming for 20,000 daily orders by January,” Sujayath Ali, Voonik CEO and Co-Founder said in an official release.
“While the other e-commerce companies are switching to an app-only strategy, we at Voonik think we are moving closer to our user base by providing them access to a personalised store across multiple platforms. We have the highest conversion rate in the industry for our app and we expect to get the highest conversion on desktop as well,” Ali added.
According to App Annie, the Voonik app is the largest player in the space of women-centric fashion in terms of market share and records the highest engagement in the e-commerce industry.
The total addressable women internet audience in India are 40 million and the total women smartphone users are 21 million, according to Voonik. “Most new users will be first-time online shoppers. Having already clocked 3.5 million app downloads, the best way to capture a larger market share is to open its doors to a wider target audience across web and mobile” Ali said.
Recently, e-commerce majors Flipkart and Snapdeal had also unveiled mobile versions of their websites (Flipkart lite and Snap lite, respectively), to give users an experience close to that of their mobile apps.

Where Flipkart’s web app gives an app-like experience without having to download the app, Snapdeal’s Lite version, however, doesn’t seem to have the app-like features of Flipkart Lite — such as the ability to add a shortcut on the home screen, push notifications, and offline functionality.
