Multiplex chain PVR Ltd recently announced the launch of its newly constructed 9-screen multiplex at VR Bengaluru, Whitefield. With this addition, PVR takes the Bangalore city tally to 57 screens across seven properties.
Spread across 61,140 sq ft of area, the cinema has been designed whilst keeping the dynamic market in mind. The company has also launched its second IMAX (after Forum Mall, Koramangala) and four Gold Class screens in the property.
“We are extremely excited to have come up with another multiplex in Bengaluru. Presently we have more than 480 screens successfully running in the country and aim to cross the mark of 500 screens soon,” Ajay Bijli, Chairman and Managing Director, PVR Ltd said, in an official release.
The company also plans to expand with equal penetration in both tier II and tier III cities.
Earlier this year, PVR Cinemas acquired DT Cinemas for about Rs. 500 crore. Speaking to Indiaretailing then, the company had shared their plans to open 60-70 additional screens across India by 2016.
“We will be adding 60-70 additional screen across India by 2016. We are targeting all parts of the country from Mysore, Pathankot, Chennai, Bokaro to Noida and also some suburbs of Mumbai. Wherever we see scope and growth opportunities, those will be our functional areas,” Nitin Sood, Group Chief financial Officer and spokesperson, PVR had said then.

With the Bengaluru launch, PVR’s screen count rises to 491 screens at 109 properties in 44 cities in India.
