Marking a mail to its customers, taxi-hailing firm has announced that it is shutting down its grocery and food delivery service. Ola had launched Ola Store and Ola Cafe just a year ago in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and NCR.
The email read, “In this time, we have also brought to you a range of experiments and initiatives by leveraging the unique strengths we have in terms of technology and logistic capabilities. Ola Store was one such experiment that brought you groceries from stores around you within minutes…As we strengthen our focus on building mobility for a billion people, we are drawing this experiment to a close and taking learnings from these to serve you better in the time to come.”
The company has also removed the icon of Ola Cafe from its app. It had introduced the services following its US-based rival Uber’s strategy to launch UberEATS in its home market.
However, Ola has made it clear that they started these services on experimental basis and cab aggregation remains their core focus.
Last month, Flipkart also shut down its grocery delivery service. Other companies that have shut down their grocery delivery serivce includes names of some big players like Nearby and Paytm. Grofers and Peppertap too had closed their operations in a few cities.
