Danone India enters Lalru; invests Rs 150 crore

Danone, the world leader in food industry has entered Lalru, a town in Punjab. The company with an aim of expansion will invest Rs 150 crore.

Elaborating about the plan, MD, Danone India, Laurent Marcel said – the company will establish a spray dryer unit at Lalru to produce world class range of infant nutrition products; quoted by PTI as saying.

Further to this statement he added “India is a strategic market for us with immense potential in value added dairy, infant nutrition as well as medical nutrition. Over the last five years, Danone has made significant investments in India to develop an innovative and quality driven product portfolio.”

As per the MD of the French multinational, based in Paris, ‘Make in India’ does not strictly means to only produce in India It also involves innovating in India to bring out the best in class nutrition products made specifically for the Indian consumers.

Danone, in last 3 years, had introduced a program called ‘Academilk’ which will provide training to more than 5,000 farmers about milk quality.

“Apart from infrastructure support, continuous farmer education programmes are also carried out to ensure superior milk with better microbiological standards and control on antibiotics,” the company statement was quoted by PTI as saying.

Danone is a popular name in dairy and Life nutrition segments in India. Danone Dairy has UHT and fresh dairy products such as mishtidoi, chaas, lassi, dahi, flavoured yoghurt and smoothies.

Nutricia – Danone’s life nutrition business, offer products for pregnant ladies, infants, children as well as adults, under brands like Farex, Protinex, Dexolac and Nusobee.
