EBay are launching an all out attack on their e-commerce rivals, Amazon – with boxes!
While eBay sellers sold $82 billion of goods through the shopping site in 2015, the brand is not visible anywhere since eBay sellers choose their own packaging, and that packaging doesn’t carry the eBay name.
On the flipside, Amazon’s boxes have the company name and distinctive arrow logo emblazoned across it in bold letters, giving the brand a lot more visibility.
In a blog post on Tuesday, eBay announced that it would begin offering eBay-branded boxes, envelopes, and tape for the third-party merchants who sell goods on its site. eBay will sell the boxes and other items to the merchants through a new shipping supplies online store.
eBay claims its boxes are 100 per cent recyclable and come in 10 different sizes. There are also different kinds – such “airjacket” bubble mailers, “polyjacket” mailers, and “premium quality tape.”
The shipping materials will be available through the eBay Shipping Supplies Store, operated by a third-party fulfillment partner with a license to use eBay’s brand. It is also sending out free eBay-branded supplies to some of its top sellers.
