To fund innovation and expansion of its brand Licious, Delighful Gourmet, the online fresh meat delivery firm, has raised $3 million from Mayfield India.
Four months ago, the Bangalore-based company had secured $1 million in angel funding from a clutch of investors including former Infosys board member Mohandas Pai and ex-Helion Ventures co-founder Kanwaljeet Singh.
Delightful Gourmet is planning to utilise these funds to enhance its technology and analytic capabilities, along with entering new markets like Mumbai and Delhi.
Licious, which manages meat and seafood supply chain from processing to delivery, claims it receives nearly 15,000 orders per month on an average. The firm has a central processing unit in Bengaluru and 10 delivery centres across the city.
Licious as a brand
Licious was founded by Abhay Hanjura, a Bangalore University science graduate along with his friend Vivek Gupta, a chartered accountant, after having a poor meat buying experience. After successfully testing its technology and business model, Licious launched its service this month.
Licious owns and operates a fully automated meat processing unit at Hennur in Bengaluru with delivery hubs in localities such as Marathahalli and Kammanahalli.
Licious sources meat products after stringent internal quality checks. It uses patented, vacuum sealed and temperature controlled containers to deliver items such as chicken, lamb and sea food. It promises to deliver meat products in about 90 minutes.
Partnership with Grofers
Licious partnered with hyper local delivery startup Grofers to scale up its reach across the city and ensure delivery of fresh vacuum-packed meat and fish within 90 minutes of placing an order.
